Hello Followers

There are twenty-six people "following" my blog. Of that twenty-six, I know perhaps three of you in real life. Not even cyber life, but face-to-face real life. Three. Mike, Amanda, and Sarah, I'm looking at you.

So to the rest of you, the lot of you, who are you? Don't be afraid to post a "hi" or "I'm lurking" every once in a while. If you're a blogger, great! If you just follow blogs, that's cool too.

Twenty-six people "follow" me. Does that mean I have a blog entourage? Am I famous in the world of blogging? What exactly is "following" anyway, and should I feel threatened that people want to read my ramblings so often? It makes me feel like I need to do a follower purge like a Facebook purge: if you don't make an effort to be an interactive friend, see ya! De-friend. De-follower.

Just sayin'... hello followers. I see you.

I don't think I'm a follower, but I subscribe to your blog in RSS. I used to work at OSU, and still live in Corvallis. My blog is Outside The Interzone (Interzone is the coffee shop at 16th and Monroe where I spend much of my waking life.)

I never have gotten into the Follower thing and never posted those who follow me. I don't even know how they get hooked up with me, since I don't have a Follower button they can click on. It reminds me too much of high school popularity stuff...and I DETESTED high school, all 3 of them that I attended. So...I'm not a Follower but I'm a regular contributor, ha! How does THAT rate?!?

Lockwood: I lurk on your site now and then. Glad to know there are bloggers around town!

MissKris, you are dead-on about the popularity thing: HATED IT. Not because I wasn't popular, but because I could see none of it mattering five years later. Guess what? It didn't. :) And yes, regular reader and contributor INDEED!

Miss Carly, my apologies for not responding. I'm here nearly every day. If you comment a question, I'll try to respond... and if I missed one, let me know. Thanks for sticking with me and reading!

Yes, the two of you are always around here, but you're not "followers."

I enjoy your post which is why I follow. Don't feel threatend.lol Plus, I'm only a 17 year old girl. To me following is basically just like clicking the favorite button on a web page. It's an easy way to stay updated with ppl. You can come check out my blog too!

Thank you for keeping tabs on me both online and offline, dear husband. Awwww! (see everyone, he really does exist)

And BashfulToast, thanks for commenting! Keep up the book reviews and reading. While I didn't have much time for it through college, reading remains one of my favorite activities. Your blog Wireman Says seems like it has a ton of potential: way to be thoughtful!

Alas, dear Jaggy...I've succumbed to the Follower gadget. A reader who stumbles across me and then can't find me for ages...then stumbles across me again asked me to please set it up so she can 'find me in the rain'. HA! I put it on this morning...the last time it was up was a year or two ago, I think. Several on there don't even blog but I dunno if they still come by or not so I left them there. It makes me cranky, but I'll see how it goes.

I suppose even if I don't "follow" you, I still follow in the sense that I read pretty much every day. I have a new IP now so you'll have to note that...

Ian: ROFL! Thanks for the note and heads up that you moved... the whole "getting married" thing tends to cause moving. I've updated my StatCounter just for you. :P

It means you have your very own groupies! Like Mick Jagger in the late 60s! Only you don't meet, sleep with and do drugs with your groupies. Which is probably a lot safer, considering.

I also read your blog, but I don't know if I "follow" it. I like your posts quite a bit!
As for this "interactive friend" bit, I'll see what I can do.
